Sony announced the price for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) today, at least the price for a Japanese version: 19,800 yen ($186)

I think that price has surprised a lot of people, myself included. Since most of us thought that the system would cost somewhere around $299 or so when it hit the shelves, the new $186 price tag is actually quite reasonable — some may call it a bargain for what one gets.

But still the Nintendo DS is coming out in the States a few months earlier than the PSP and it is priced at $149, we’ll see who wins out this time. The PSP definitely looks like it has more horsepower than the DS, but it looks very large.
