Happy Birthday Windows 95!

Wow, it is hard to fathom that it has been 10 years since the release of Windows 95! At that time (Aug. 24, 1995), I was working at Computer City -- the now defunct Tandy-owned retail computer superstore -- in Milpitas, CA. I remember stocking the boxes and staying util after midnight to sell to those willing souls who waited in line to buy the OS. The midnight sell-off did not last too long, there was an initial rush and then things died down. When we were closing down for the day (morning), Bob Tercero and I plunked down our hard earned cash for a copy of Windows 95. I remember installing Windows 95 on my 486DX2/66 with a sense of wonder and amazement. I remember how cool I thought the Start button was and I can still hear the song "Start Me Up" in my head. It was definitely quite an experience and so far there has been no other OS that has caused the same kind of stir. I doubt there ever will be the same kind of Windows 95 excitement -- not even Windows Vista.

10 Years?? My god, has it been that long?? I remember the broadcast that they payed Jay Leno to MC for a Million Dollars. I probably still have the special floppy only version of 95 in one of my closets.

Yea! 10 damn years, it's hard to believe. Yikes! Looking at the UI for Windows 95 and Windows XP, it is surprising to see how little change there has been in 10 years. The same cannot be same about the Mac OS though. I think in 1995, Mac OS was at version 7.x. There has been tremendous change in the Mac OS UI since then.
