T-Mobile SMTP Needs Authentication Now

This is mainly for my notes, but feel free to partake in the information. It looks like T-Mobile has turned on SMTP AUTH for their SMTP server myemail.t-mobile.com. In order to send email now, you'll have to turn on SMTP AUTH (some phones may not support). Here is how you log in:
Your username will be your 10-digit number, then ":", then 1 or 2 or 3 depending on which account you're using. So, if you log into t-mobile.com, then go to your email account section. You'll be able to setup t-mobile.com to check three POP accounts. Just set it up to check one account (whatever junk account, like Gmail or whatnot). Then you'll have one account setup, that will be "1". So, your username for login will be 4081234567:1.
The password for logging in will be the password of the POP account.

Thanks for the great info! How did you find this out? T-mobile's help site is incomprehensible!

Yea, their support site sucks with data information. I scoured through howardforums.com to find this info out.

Man am I glad you posted this! Oddly though, I had been using T-Mob's SMTP server without a password since after October 9th. It was often flaky, but if I hit send again, it would go through. Wasn't until a few days ago that it seemed to quit working for good. Weird....

After 3 days of BS and long waits on hold running around trying to figure out how to get a non T-Mobile smartphone (Treo 750) to send SMTP outbound, this information solved my problem immediately. Thanks!

I can't view or download BBC i programmes. I get a message saying that BBC TV programmes are not available to download or view on the i-player outside the UK. I am in Bristol, using my T Mobile dongle. Is this caused by the same circumstance? Sorry, I don't even know what an smpt (or whatever it is, is!). Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks, Pumpkin
