I haven’t used Xbox live for the longest time and today I received an “automatic renewal” notice from Microsoft. Here’s what bothers me about the process about getting my Xbox Live account cancelled: I couldn’t cancel it online, I had to call a 1-800 number to cancel! Whut?? This is an account for an online account! Why is it that I have to call a 1-800 number to cancel? My guess is that Microsoft is banking on people being lazy and not bothering to call — cancelling online would make it too easy for people while making a phone call is a bit more involved. It is sad that an account for playing games online cannot be cancelled online, it is very sad Microsoft!

Yeah!!! And i had to call this stupid support number..and guess what!!..i ended up talking to an Indian dude. It took him about 15 mins for him to finally get my name. But have anyone here tried PS2 Online before, is that any good. Because i don’t think i’ll be getting the new Xbox 360, Xbox is history, specially that fucking Xbox live.

If you do not want to continue your Xbox Live subscription, you can cancel at any time by calling 1.800.4MY.XBOX. Thanks for being part of the Xbox Live community, two million gamers strong—and growing!
that last part almost sounds like a flintstones kids vitamin commercial lol

I just cancelled mine just now actually.. wasn’t TOO bad.. the guy spoke english fine and didn’t really hassle me or anything. There was this annoying static interference bleeping that occured every second.. aside from that they had good hold music.. was house or club electronic type something.

What an absolute pain. I just canceled mine too after a surprise renewal charge on my credit card. I hadn’t played my xbox in over 6 months and it’s been in storage. Never received an email about it. Sounds very dirty and conniving, but it’s Microsoft.
Spoke with an Indian support center. Woman was decent but asked too many questions.

Yea, I remembered when I called about my Xbox Live and also about my MSN Direct, they asked way too many questions. “Why are you quiting?”, “Is there anything we can do?”, etc.
I am surprised at how many people are coming to this page looking to find out how to cancel Xbox Live. Are people just jumping ship because they can’t find anything to do on Xbox Live? That’s why I did it, I didn’t play that much online to justify the cost.
The reason I got it was mainly for Burnout 3, but when I got Burnout Revenge, I got it on the PS2. Then I could play online for free whenever I wanted with my brother-in-law and sister.

whats the problem with some one asking you questions about why you want to cancel or anything? That’s just plain marketing. Agreed its a pain but if you owned a business you’d do the same to keep your customers. What if you were a newbie and just didn’t figure out how to connect? And why does it matter if it was Indian call center or not? Indian english is pretty good (heck, top winners of all spelling bee contests in the US are Indian kids) Unless of course, you are racist…Trust me, Microsoft would use the same tactics irrespective of whether its an Indian call center or not. and btw, get used to it - given that english is THE medium of education in 80% of India, you can expect more call centers to end up in India.

I just cancelled for the 3rd time and they aren’t even giving me a full refund for the past 2 months (only refunding for one month).
They KNOW their systems are screwed up because a billing supervisor was just very candid with me about what “problems” they have with cancelling. good luck!

Grrr. I have rang the Indian call centre for Microsoft 3 times this week. It took 3 confusing people, oodles of reference numbers and loads of time on hold. It took over 2 hours in total to tell me my redeem code didn’t work because I am in the US and bought an American code.
now im going to have to pay another $90 (50 pound) for an English card.
Pah, to think ‘Next-Gen’ was supposed to be International.

Ive just spent like a hour trying to cancel my xbox live, no where in “account management” does it say anything about canceling accounts….I need help

To make a long story short… I’ve spent HOURS over the last four months trying to cancel my son’s Xbox Live account and get a refund. Finally got someone who thinks he got it figured out last night after another 85 minutes on the phone. He says to give the customer service rep. at #1-800-469-9269 my reference number and ask for a supervisor immediately if I have to call back again. (You’ll get that number from the person who answers at the “cancel my account” prompt.) So, I hope that info helps somebody else time-wise at least. Good luck!

They will try to tell you that you are not entitled to a refund after the first 60 days of your renewal… don’t accept that. I argued with them once for a while, then called back the next day… then they offered to downgrade me to a one month subscription at $5.99 and refund me the rest (which is more than half a year for me). Got the more reasonable response on a Monday, with what sounded like US staff instead of overseas staff that i got the first time (who probably aren’t allowed to offer this deal). Let them know that you know your rights, that courts will not uphold their BS “Terms of Service” that no one reads, and they will buckle. Tell them you’ll write a complaint to the FCC if they don’t. Good luck y’all!

I believe this is one of the many scams. Was lured into it, was only supposed to be a once off subscription for my son. They just continue to deduct the money and the phone number that was supplied is unreachable!
If you consider subscribing to this scrap - please think twice. Looking at the above comments I realize I’m not the only victim!
