Speed Up VMware Server Guests

I thought VMware Server was great. The performance of Guest OSes were fast enough for me. Then I tried out the VMware Tools! Whoa! What a difference. I am not sure where they are when you do a RPM installation, but if you download the tar.gz file, you can find them here:

vmware-server-distrib/lib/isoimages

For RPM installations, the ISO files are here:
/usr/lib/vmware/isoimages

After you install your OS (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Netware, or Solaris), use the appropriate ISO file as a CDROM drive for your guest OS. On the virtual CD will be the appropriate drivers and stuff for your guest OS to truly take advantage of VMware Server. It makes a hell of a lot of difference. Screen redraws become faster. Mouse control becomes ultrasmooth. Disk I/O is faster. It is worth the effort to get the VMware Tools installed for your guest OSes.
