VMware Server doesn’t seem to want to run on Fedora Core 6 without some massaging. Here’s what I did to get it working:
- Install the rpm for VMware Server from the provided rpm.
- Get the source patch for VMware Server from here. (Filename will be vmware-any-any-updateXXX.tar.gz).
- Run the runme.pl from the above file.
- Run vmware-config.pl
- Edit /usr/share/applications/vmware-server.desktop and change the “Categories=” from whatever it is to “Application;System;”
That should get VMware Server working. (I know FC6 comes with Xen, but I can’t get my sound working when Xen is installed, go figure).
