The Flash

May 19, 2015

There will be some spoilers in this post, so if you have not watched the finale to the first season of The Flash, do not read any farther -- and if you have not been watching The Flash, you need to.

I have been a fan of this show since it premiered. I have not watched its sister show Arrow, but I may now that The Flash's first season is done. What the CW has done with The Flash is amazing. It has turned this DC property into something special and I hope that DC does not ruin The Flash -- as they may with the Flash movie which does not have Grant Gustin cast as Barry Allen.

What makes the Flash special is that the show is not the dark brooding DC world that seems to be featured in the DC films -- the Christopher Nolan Batman films, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel film, and the upcoming Superman v. Batman film. The Flash is a bright hopeful world featuring a super-hero that has a good heart. It has a some sharp writing that makes good use of humor. Sure, his life kicked off with the tragedy of his mother being murdered, but Barry Allen is a hero that cares about people and has a positive attitude.

The finale was great because it did not go for the big boss battle between The Flash and The Reverse-Flash. Rather it was quite an emotional ride, which I enjoyed very much. The relationship that I enjoyed watching throughout this season is the one that Barry shares with Joe. The father-son relationship is powerful and during this finale, it was the one that had the most impact for me.

Seeing Barry choose his current life and having to say good-bye to his mother was also quite affecting.

And Eddie saving the day caught me totally by surprise. He is truly a hero for doing what he did.

I look forward to season two of The Flash. I noticed Caitlin being Killer Frost, maybe that's something that will be a big thing in the next season?

Marvel maybe winning in the movie theaters (Guardians of the Galaxy, Winter Soldier) and on non-traditional broadcast TV (Daredevil on Netflix) -- but on broadcast TV, there is only one superhero that matters and it is DC's Flash.
