A Good Day to Die Hard (2012)

July 7, 2016

In my book, Die Hard (1988) is one of the greatest action films ever made. The McClane character in the original was an everyman that we could all relate to. A Good Day to Die Hard is the worst of all the sequels -- beating even Die Hard 2: Die Harder.

A Good Day to Die Hard, as an action film, is not that bad action-wise. The film has some decent set pieces and some creative action. But, when it has the "Die Hard" moniker on it, it has to be compared with Die Hard itself and this is where it fails. A Good Day to Die Hard is a bland pedestrian action film that just happens to have a character named John McClane in it. This John McClane is not the everyday man that was in the original Die Hard, this is some indestructible super hero which makes each set piece somewhat boring and left the me unable to relate to the character of John McClane.

And while the set pieces were creative, I did find my mind wandering at times because the film's pacing is very sporadic. The script is unnecessarily convoluted and the twist at the end was broadcast way too early in the film.
