Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad (DIS S01E07)

November 25, 2018

Harry Mudd returns to take over the Discovery and sell the ship to the Klingons. There's some shenanigans with time that make the episode interesting.

Notes

Harry Mudd has always been an interesting character. I was happy to see him in Discovery and wondered how it would all tie together with TOS. This episode did a bunch of that work.

This episode felt a lot like a classic TOS episode, even without Mudd being Mudd. The episode is a stand-alone episode that only needed the intro to let us know about Harry Mudd and how he had the Captain and Tyler. After that, the episode becomes fun and entertaining, and for the most part a little aloof.

The mixture of Ground Hog's Day and Edge of Tomorrow in this episode made for an engaging watch -- and I know that this episode will be one of the episodes that I will remember from Discovery.

I really enjoyed this episode.

I really like how the show created Stamets. By starting off the show with Stamets being a stuck-up and fairly unlikable character; then turning him into this happy-go-lucky character after being introduced to the tardigrade DNA really boosted the likability and memorability of the character.
