The crew of the Enterprise meet other explorers, their race has three genders.

The cogenitor refers to the third gender.
Trip is nosy and annoying. He needs to learn about respecting other cultures.
It's easy to misunderstand someone when you don't know their culture.
This was a good episode and I am glad that the writers did not take any shortcuts or the easy way out by the end of the episode.
