The Enterprise has been through an ion storm and is heavily damaged. The Enterprise makes an unscheduled stop at Starbase 11.
Kirk is accused of killing Finney in the ion storm by ejecting the pod with Finney inside too early.
This is the episode thet has the death of Finney in the ion storm -- something that is written about in the Autobiography of James T. Kirk.
