Well, it was surgery time tonight. My Archos Jukebox Recorder 6GB had its heart ripped out and a new larger one put in. After an hour and a half following the [url=http://www.funmp3players.com/reviews/modify/" target="__upgrade]detailed instructions[/url] provided by FunMP3Players.Com I was able to upgrade my Archos Jukebox Recorder 6GB to 30GB! Awesome. Total cost? Around $150. Not bad considering a brand new Archos Recorder 20GB costs $275 at Amazon.com. I had to buy a box of torx screwdrivers (the size needed for the Archos upgrade is T10), a 2.5" to 3.5" harddrive adapter, and a new IBM Travelstar 30GB 2.5" (9.5mm height) notebook harddrive.
The procedure to upgrade is rather easy. The only things that I did somewhat wrong were: 1) I bent the thin metal pieces that hold the blue bumpers on and 2) The buttons on the front face feel just a tad looser now that I upgraded (not sure that's my fault). Otherwise the machine works great. I can now carry 30GB worth of music around in a one pound box! Hehe. That's six times more than my iPod. Tehehe.
The only thing that I don't get that the new Archos Recorder 20GB has is USB 2.0 compatibility. Damn. Oh wells, I don't have a USB 2.0 compatible card installed in my computer yet. Otherwise, I have 10GB more than that new machine. I wonder if I'll be able to fill out this thing...
