Houston We Have An Alternative

january 25, 2003

Looks like Microsoft is losing Houston. The Texas city is now starting to get rid of Microsoft Office on their computers and switching over to an alternative named SimDesk. From the looks of it SimDesk is an application that takes place of most of Microsoft Office's functions, but does it in a server-client way. This allowed Houston to start replacing computers with cheaper thin clients. I wonder if Microsoft is losing ground now in their Office niche. Here is the News.com story about Houston's switch. Not only that but HP, Sony and other PC manufacturers are switching from Microsoft's products also. I think Microsoft better wake up and see that if they don't change their ways, they may go the way of the dinosaurs.
