Make Safari Really Fast

august 3, 2003

So, I noticed that whenever I used Safari on my iBook it would hit the hard drive a lot. I thought I'd see if there was some way to either disable the disk cache or make it all RAM cache. Well, couldn't find anyway to do either in the preferences, so I found out how to just plain disable caching with Safari altogether (since I have broadband access anyways). To do this: rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/Safari/ touch ~/Library/Caches/Safari That's it! Safari will never try to hit the hard drive again, saving wear and tear (and also if you're running on batteries, saving battery life!)
