American Civil Liberties Union

I did not know that I could be a card-carrying ACLU member until I was talking with my co-worker Manish about politics. He showed me his card and told me frankly, "Yea, just go to the website, make a donation, get a card, and be part of the ACLU." Cool, I thought. So, today I joined the ACLU with a nice donation. I should be getting my card soon. What is the ACLU? They are a group of people that "work daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. Our job is to conserve Americas original civic values - the Constitution and the Bill of Rights." They are working against the USA PATRIOT Act (and its sequel) which take away our civil rights and privacy -- it allows the FBI to pull medical records, student records, library records without letting us know. It takes all the checks away and lets law enforcement do what they like in the name of our "national security". They take care of a lot of stuff and for me it is worth the donation. You should check out their website for more information about all the stuff that they work on. If you agree, donate too and support a good cause.
