There has been an email that has been forwarded over the last week or two about how mobile phone numbers will be added to a directory service -- and how telemarketers will be able to get your number from the directory and start calling your mobile phone. It's just a bogus email according to a report from the Washington Post. The directory, which will be done by Qsent Inc. will be an opt-in directory for Sprint Corp., Cingular Wireless, AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Nextel Communications Inc., Alltel Corp. and T-Mobile. And the directory won't go into service until next fall (at the earliest). So stop freaking out and calling the do-not-call registry phone number with your mobile phone (although you could), the mobile phone privacy that you enjoy now is not over (yet).
