AWStats

december 13, 2004

I remember running an early version of AWStats when I had boiled.sbay.org running on an old SPARC 10 box. I haven't revisited it for a while since Webalizer was doing such a good job for me lately. But I saw some review of AWStats in some Linux rag and decided to give it a try again. It is actually pretty cool now, it's really grown up from what I used it last. It is a little be slow, but that's a given since it seems to be pulling the data straight from a flat-file and then making charts and stuff from it. It provides better information than Webalizer does on stuff (like visit times) and also filters out known crawlers and bots in order to give a better representation of what the traffic is like from real users. Prertty nice. I am still running Webalizer along with AWStats, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
