OK, I missed it by one stinking day...Wordpress 2.0 has been released. I just finished upgrading and am trying out some of the new stuff. I guess most of the stuff is hidden in the backend, but there are still some cool stuff that I can see. You probably will not see much difference since the frontend looks pretty much unchanged. In the admin side of things it looks like there are some new features:
- A very cool WYSIWYG editor that is done in AJAX. I have never been a fan of WYSIWYG editors, but this one may well win me over if it functions right.
- A different look for the admin section, including a the writing page which looks to facilitate writing better -- you have to see it to know what I mean. There is stuff like real-time resizable editing window. Adding of Categories on-the-fly. And other cool stuff that I haven't discovered in the 15 minutes I have been playing with it.
- There is a new anti-spam plugin named Akismet, which is a distributed spam fighting tool.
- Wordpress 2.0 did break one of the plug-ins I used (for PHP), but I quickly found a new one that replaced it -- and actually works much easier.
- It looks like the multi-author thing is better defined.
- Still no multi-blog thing though.
Anyways, I am going to bed now. But, so far from my quick peek at Wordpress 2.0, it looks like there has been some significant work done to make the job of writing much easier!
