I Hate Microsoft's Cancellation "Procedure"

january 5, 2006

When I tried to cancel my Xbox Live account, I figured I could do it online -- hell, it's an online gaming account, should be able to do it online. Nope. I ended up having to call a 1-800 number. Today, I wanted to cancel my MSN Direct plan (you know the whole "smart watch" thing). It's an online service right? You select the news feeds you want sent to your watch on their website. You get your information wirelessly. But, when you want to cancel? You gotta call a 1-866 number also! And, what's even better is that the number listed on the website sends you to the wrong place. So, if you want to call MSN Direct Cancellation, call 1-866-658-7032. Again, repeating what I said in my Xbox Live posting, this is totally inane. People should be able to cancel their online services accounts online!  People should not have to go through the hassle and waste time listening to MSN Search commercials to cancel their online accounts.  Microsoft, you should be ashamed of yourself for using such a backass way of doing things!  In the day and age of online transactions, letting people sign-up online but forcing them to cancel with a phone call is just plain embarassing.
