february 25, 2006Lets imagine for a moment the kind of car that would be produced if a bunch of music execs and the RIAA got together:
- The car can only be parked in three places. If you wanted to park the car in a place other than those three places, one of the other places would need to be deauthorized.
- The car is only compatible with specific highways and roads. If you want to use some other highway or road, you'd have to buy a different car that is compatible.
- In order to use the car, you have to plug the car into your phone line and get it authorized with your username, password, Social Security number, and finger print.
- Only you can use the car. If your wife wants to use the car, you'd have to get her a new car.
- The car will only function for one year, after that you have to pay again to get it reauthorized for use.
Aren't we glad that music execs and the RIAA aren't in the automotive industry? Here is a smart idea from Yahoo! Music chief Dave Goldberg: Record labels should try selling music online without copy protection.
