Well, it is official. The PlayStation 3 will be delayed until the end of the year, but in time for the 2006 Holiday Season. Sony has finally stopped playing the "it'll be released in the spring of 2006" game. The article almost makes it sound like Blu-ray is the cause of the delay as "the company fine-tunes the chips that are crucial to the success of the console's Blu-ray function."
I am glad that Sony has stopped trying to deny that they couldn't make the Spring 2006 release date. I am glad that Sony has moved the launch to the 2006 Holiday Season. This way Sony can get maximum bang for the hype, since people go nuts during the holidays and not during...well...March.
Also, this should (I hope) give Sony enough time to iron out the bugs in the PS3 and PS3 production line in order for a flawless launch. I am sure that there will be shortages -- real or not -- but, hopefully, this will give Sony enough time to not screw the pooch like Microsoft did with the Xbox 360 launch.
