Check out this "service" that Hollywood is offering. You'll be able to buy a digital copy of a movie the day that it is released onto DVD. The catch? The digital copy will cost you twice as much as the DVD version! Huh? The studios say that it is doing this because they don't want to directly compete with retailers who sell DVDs. I think this service is going to die a quick death. Why would I buy a digital movie that I can only watch on my computer for twice as much as the DVD release? Sigh. It was just a few days that I wrote about the imminent death of UMD, and this product from Hollywood is following in the same footsteps.
