This falls into the "We're Trying To Monetize Everything" category. I think the huge banner ad on Netflix is pretty distracting and unattractive. It really takes away from the appeal of the Netflix site. First, I don't go to the theatres to watch movies anymore. Why? Because I can wait and watch the rental from Netflix. So this ad does nothing for me but waste bandwidth. Second, there is no way to opt-out of seeing this huge ad on the site. Netflix should let me opt-out. Sure, I don't spend a lot of time on the site, but what time I spend there as a subscriber, I should be able to do it without having to see this ad. Bad Netflix, Bad. This comes pretty close to being as bad as Netflix's throttling policy.
