Camera Phone Facination

Motorola SLVR L7 VGA Camera
I was browsing through one of the mobile phone sites that I visit infrequently and noticed them writing about a Samsung 3.x megapixel phone. Then I looked at Phonescoop and they were talking about the same phone. But, then I noticed that reviews on other phones focused a lot on the camera rather than the phone functionality. And I realized that mobile phone manufacturers are focusing more and more on cramming a high megapixel camera into a phone. One phone that shows this megapixel mentality is the Nokia N90, which has Carl Zeiss Optics, autofocus, and a 2 megapixel sensor. The problem? In trying to cram all that camera stuff into the phone, the phone is larger than a hunk of Dove soap! Do we really need that? Since when did a phone become more a camera than a communication device? What is the facination with the camera attached to the phone? How many normal mobile phone users have actually used their cameras? Of those, how many know how to get the pictures off the phone?
