I already have Windows XP running on a notebook at home, so I didn't want the notebook I just got to also run Windows (yes, you can have too much Windows). So, I installed Fedora Core 5 on the new notebook and it worked well -- until I did a yum update. After I updated the system, udev hung while I booted the notebook with my 802.11b card installed. When I popped the card out, everything worked. Put it in, dead. Weird. I bonked my head for a while then decided to not waste anymore time.
I installed SuSE 10.1 and it worked great -- even after I updated the system with all the patches. Now, I have a stable working system that is rather pretty and fast. I like it a lot. I'm still trying to figure out some of the configuration stuff, but otherwise, it's working the way I want it. My only complaint is that everything that happens through YAST (the configuration thing) is really slow. It starts up slow and when it is done, it closes slow.
