FC5 and DWL-G630

july 28, 2006

I thought I'd try to get my D-Link AirPlus DWL-G630 PC Card working with my Fedora Core 5 install. I had been using my really old D-Link DWL-650, which works out-of-the-box with FC5. But, I wanted to see if I couldn't get my newer DWL-G630 working. It was not too painful. I found these instructions and am going to duplicate the instructions here. The madwifi rpms came from the livna repository.

  1. yum install madwifi madwifi-kmdl-`uname -r`
  2. Add following lines into /etc/modprobe.conf alias ath0 ath_pci options ath_pci autocreate=sta
  3. Reboot
  4. configure the wireless interface "ath0" in System | Administration | Network
That's it! It really wasn't bad as I thought it would be. It would be cool if the card worked with FC5 out-of-the-box, but with these instructions, it's not too bad.
