The search bar in the Firefox that comes with CentOS 4 seems to be stuck on Google for some reason. Usually, with Firefox, you can pull down the search bar and switch to another search engine. Then when you exit and come back in, it will come back to whatever search engine you last used. Not so with the Firefox included with CentOS 4 (and I presume RHEL 4, since CentOS 4 is merely a rebuild of RHEL 4). Anyways, since I like using the Yahoo! Search engine, here's a quick fix:
- Exit Firefox, if you're running it
- Open a Terminal session
- cd ~/.mozilla/firefox/
- In that directory, you'll find your user directory (random text followed by ".default")
- cd into your user directory
- rm search.rdf
- Launch Firefox and search.rdf will be regenerated
- Pull down search bar and select your search engine of choice
Not too bad.
