The Forgotten Holiday

november 21, 2006

Thanksgiving. Completely and utterly forgotten at your local shopping mall. Why celebrate a holiday that doesn't have any related merchandise? My suggestion? Lets move Thanksgiving...again. It has been moved before.  Originally, Thanksgiving was celebrated on the last Thursday of November.  But, in 1939 Franklin D. Roosevelt moved it to the second to last Thursday of November.  Why?  To give people more time to shop for Christmas. So, here's my suggestion.  Lets move Thanksgiving to...say...June!  Second to last Thursday of June.  That would be nice.  There aren't any real holidays in June and nothing big preceding or following. Thanksgiving in June.  Perfect.
