january 25, 2007After the excellent four hour season premiere of "24", they followed up with what must be the worst episode in a long time. And what is worse is that the episode sets up some terrible story arcs that will pollute the rest of the season. I am quite disappointed in "24" after this week's episode. Here is what went wrong:
- Sandra Palmer's storyline continues to drag the show to a crawl.
- The whole exploding helicopter scene felt wedged in there so that they could get at least one explosion per episode.
- Karen Hayes and Bill Buchanan, just wrong. This relationship was thrown in so that we can have an "emotional" storyline much like the old (and much better) Tony Almeida and Michelle Dressler relationship.
- Jack's brother (wtf??) Graham. The whole "Jack's brother is drumroll a bad guy" thing just plain stunk.
- Jack's dad (wft??) is a bad guy too? Sigh. What is this a soap opera? And to make matters worse, Jack's dad is not played by Kiefer's dad.
- Jack's brother's WIFE? And a history between Jack and her? Oh come on! Apparently, 24 is changing its genre this year from "thriller" to "soap opera".
The whole Jack, brother, father and sister-in-law thing will have long term effects on this season. That is plain unfortunate as they don't add up to anything but cheap melodrama. The President's sister is a whole waste of screen time. What is happening to 24 this season? I will give the show a few more episodes to see if I will continue to watch. It is not looking promising though.
