I thought I was the only one, until I read JR's posting about the Olympics.
I too don't have the Olympic spirit. I could care less about the games and everything associated with them. And I really am not looking forward to the next two weeks of wall-to-wall Olympic coverage in all media.
So, while I haven't spent my entire life training for and cannot do the following:
- Run really fast.
- Run really fast with a pole, stick it in a hole, propel myself over another pole.
- Swim
- Jump from a really tall platform, spin, land in water, and swim.
- Run back and forth putting a ball through a hoop.
- Lift a gah-zillion pounds of metal strapped to a pole.
I have spent my life learning computer doodads which I employ for work and which, hopefully, will continue to be a source of income for the rest of my life. I'm not sure that knowing how to run really fast with a pole, sticking a pole in a hole and propelling myself over another pole would do the same.
Yes, these people are athletic. But, really, all your life for one shot at a round gold platter thingie? Not to minimize things, but I don't see why. Sorry. (And yes, I don't understand professional sports either, but that's a whole 'nother posting).
