Sony FX30

Sony FX30

I bought a Sony FX30 when it was on sale with the thought that I would learn videography and video editing. But, I have been using it mainly for photography. I have full frame cameras, but I really like how the FX30 handles and how the pictures look coming out of the FX30.

Miffy Watching TV

Sure, there’s no EVF and I do like using an EVF, but after years of taking pictures using an iPhone, using only the flippy screen on the FX30 is not out of place. There’s even a brighter daylight mode for the screen.

Five Guys Burger

The FX30 paired with the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 APS-C lens makes this a really great combo and an awesome walkabout setup. The Sigma lens is super sharp and the image quality excellent. It helps that the lens is small and light too.

I also have the Sony 10-20mm f/4 lens and that is a fun lens that takes some very wide angle photos.

Highway 85

The images that come from the FX30 have a quality to them that I don’t seem to get from my full frame cameras. The FX30 produces images that are not as clinical as my A7R V. There’s character to the pictures that the FX30 produces that I find wonderful.

Looking Up at the Trees

The FX30 sits on my desk and I use it as a pick up and shoot camera. I use Darkroom across my Apple devices (Mac Studio, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and iPhone Pro) to edit photos. I like that it’s just the right amount of editing fuctionality – not too much, not too little. It’s easy to pick up and use.

Black and White Trees

I like that, like other new Sony cameras, the FX30 connects via Bluetooth and WiFi to my iPhone via the Creator’s App. It makes quickly transfering images off the camera easy.

A Tree, A Pole and A Box

I will eventually use the FX30 for its main purpose, but for now, I am that guy who’s shooting photos using a Cinema Line camera.
