Aftermath

Aftermath is a confined space action film that’s the love child of Die Hard and Daylight. The movie follows a group of aggro PMC soldiers who take over a bridge to broadcast their grievances. Why? Who cares, the movie is so thinly written it doesn’t bother to give us their motivations. There’s a doctor involved for reasons that are thinly written also. A former Army Ranger with a traumatic past is the sole savior of everyone taken hostage on the bridge.
Mason Gooding is showing us how good he is at acting by acting really hard, screaming all his lines and emoting like his life depended on it. His performance is a single note: Aggro. It’s tiring and boring because it lacks any nuance. Sure this is a 95-minute action flick, but anything is better than this. It is a memorable performance, mainly because of how bad it is.
Other actors in the film range from forgettable to alright. I liked the tow truck driver who is memorable because of his character.
The action was mediocre with the typical low budget After Effects gun fire. The hand-to-hand fighting was decent, though the editing makes it hard to follow.
The interlaced video from a digital camera is rather hilarious.
The movie suffers from Talking Villain Syndrome. The protagonist smartly tells him to please stop talking, but nope, the antagonist continues talking.
At the end of the day, Aftermath is a bad movie, a really bad movie that I should have stopped watching after the first 30 minutes. Save yourself 95 minutes.
Streamed on Netflix.
