Spam, Spam, Spam...

So, I got SpamAssassin running to filter out email spam. I made my Webalizer stats hidden and password protected to stamp out referrer-spam. Now I am seeing another type of spam: Comment spam. How annoying can spammers be? The MO of a comment-spammer is that they come to your blog and post a message that includes multiple links to their websites. This does two things. First, some unsuspecting individual might actually be dumb enough to click through to the spam pages. Second, if the comment-spam actually got posted (which it does not since I moderate all comments just because of this) then the links back to the page are registered with the search engines -- this in turn makes those pages more "popular" because they have links coming into them. When will spammers learn that their wares aren't wanted. And most importantly, when are the people who are actually dumb enough to click-through to a link selling v1agra going to learn that they are only exacerbating the problem? Ah, spam, spam, spam...
