february 21, 2005Ok, I am writing this in Camino currently, since I switched back a day or two ago from Omniweb 5.1. Here is a list of suggestions that I sent into the Omnigroup's suggestion email address. Would I switch back if these were implemented? Maybe. My heart is still with the Open Source principle behind Camino, but I did shell out $30 for Omniweb and it is not that bad of a product. But, without further ado, here is the list of wishes for Omniweb:
- Tabs or Drawer: I wish that I had the option of switching between the drawer type tabs and Camino/Safari type tabs. On my iBook 600, I run at only 1024x768, so the horizontal screen space is at a premium.
- Collapsable Adblocking: I wish that instead of showing me the square wells where advertisement pictures used to be, that I could have the option of collapsing all of those wells. The scattered wells all over the place is distracting, I am glad that the ads are blocked, but the constant reminder that they were there doesn't help. The collapsing should happen like what happens when userContent.css blocking is done via Camino and Firefox.
- Flash blocking: I wish there was a highlighting for blocking Flash advertisements, just like the Adblock extension for Firefox.
- Better Documentation: The only reason why it took me so long to try Omniweb again was because the documentation for the ad blocking feature was so thin. It is not a difficult thing to use after I found out how it worked, but getting to that point was a lot of trial and error. Better documentation would help a lot in that respect.
- Sidebar RSS Reader: I like having RSS access in Omniweb (even though I am using Newsfire). But I think that it would work better via a sidebar instead of via the bookmarks.
That's it! Just a short wish list. Hope someone is listening out there at Omnigroup.
