ID Theft

june 15, 2005

Here is a good article on Wired.com with suggestions to Congress. The suggestions to Congress are about how they should start getting off their butts and start helping to protect our identity from identity theft. They have some surprisingly common sense suggestions that companies should be doing, but for the life of me I can't figure out why they are not. For instance, encrypt the identity data, the next time that I hear that a backup tape with millions of records was lost and the data was not encrypted, I will be tempted to find that CTO and smack them. One suggestion that Congress needs to take notice of is to keep Social Security Numbers for Social Security. Don't let companies use that to link our identity to so many things. Yeesh. Anyways, it's an interesting read.
