Not really. Apple computers and laptops are not expensive when compared to similarly loaded equipment on the Windows side. For instance, I wanted to compared my new Apple PowerBook G5 15" to a Dell. Here are the specs on my PB G4: G4 1.67GHz, 1GB RAM (2 x 512MB), 100GB HDD, 8x DVD+/-RW, 128MB ATI Radeon 9700, 802.11b/g, Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB 2.0, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR. The total for this setup is $2649.00. I found a Dell Inspiron 6000 with the same sized screen (15") and loaded it up with the same sort of stuff (including software to match some of the built-in stuff of the iApps). I came up with a Dell Inspiron 6000, Pentium M 750 1.80GHz, 1GB RAM (2 x 512MB), only 80GB HDD (since Dell does not offer 100GB apparently), 8x DVD+/-RW, 128MB ATI Radeon X300, 802.11b/g, 10/100 Ethernet, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR. (Some software I added included MyDVD Plus, QuickBooks Simple Start, Roxio - Easy Media Creator 7, and Musicmatch® Jukebox Basic). The total for this setup (which is lacking 20GB of HDD space and Gigabit Ethernet) is $2694.00 Dell will definitely try to sell you that low-priced stripped down machine to make the prices look lower. But, when you go shopping for the machine you actually want, you'll be surprised that you'll be paying a lot more. And if you're going to pay that extra money, why not give an Apple Macintosh a try instead? They cost less and give you more.
