Wal-Mart's Whining About Someone Else Dominating...

august 29, 2005

Now this news shows just how disconnected Wal-Mart is to the real world. In the UK, Tesco has 30.5% of the grocery market, while Wal-Mart's Asda has only 16% of the grocery market. So, what does Wal-Mart's CEO do? He comes out to bitch and whine that it is unfair to Asda that Tesco...Well, let me let Lee Scott explain: "As you get over 30% and higher I am sure there is a point where government is compelled to intervene." What? Hey, Lee Scott, stop being the pot calling the kettle black! Here in the US, Wal-Mart dominates the retail market (here are some stats from 2003, which I am sure are larger now). I want to ask Lee Scott: Should the US government look into Wal-Mart in the US because, as you say, "As you get over 30% and higher I am sure there is a point where government is compelled to intervene." Should the US government be compelled to intervene and start an anti-trust investigation into Wal-Mart and their practices? Should they Lee?
