Yahoo! Search Never Left The Game

january 25, 2006

There was (and still is) a lot of talk about Yahoo! CFO Susan Decker's comment in a Bloomberg article about Yahoo! Search:

"We don't think it's reasonable to assume we're going to gain a lot of share from Google," Chief Financial Officer Susan Decker said in an interview. "It's not our goal to be No. 1 in Internet search. We would be very happy to maintain our market share."
I did not post about this yesterday because I had nothing to say about it. I chatted with JR and both of us came to the conclusion to let the higher-ups do the talking. Now, there has been something released by Qi Lu, VP Engineering (Search) and Eckart Walther, VP Products (Search) on the Yahoo! Search Blog. The duo send a clear message:
"[The] commitment to being the best should be crystal clear from our investments in talented people, research, innovation and new products. Believe it or not, we are still in the early days of search. As all of us at Yahoo! agree, we're in it for the long haul, and we're in it to win."
So, don't give up on Yahoo! yet!  We never left the search game, we've only begun.
