june 17, 2006Here are the last four movies I have seen from Netflix...
- Munich - A brilliant Spielberg film which is both timeless and timely. It has great relevance in today's world and I hope people get a chance to see this film. This is an excellent film.
- Jarhead - Another timely film. Jarhead makes a good companion for the 1999 film Three Kings (starring George Clooney). Jarhead is a film that looks at war not from a gung-ho rah-rah kind of perspective. Rather, it's an unflinching look at war from the perspective of men who have been trained to kill -- but, never get a chance to. A good watch.
- Underworld: Evolution - I was very disappointed with this film. The first film was very entertaining and stylish. This film suffers from what a lot of sequels suffer from: Trying to do more of the same, but on a bigger scale. More effects, more blood, more "action". Unfortunately, most of it falls flat and in the end, the hour and 46 minute running time feels like two and a half hours. The story was also unnecessarily convoluted.
- Firewall - Uh, why was this film named "Firewall" since there seems to be no firewall hackery-do happening here. This film was supposed to be a suspense film, but I found myself watching the clock after the first half-hour. Overly talkative and very boring, this film disappointed me. Harrison Ford is also getting a little too old for the kind of fight scenes he did for the film. The computer stuff in this film was laughable -- especially the whole iPod + scanner thing. Complete utter crap.
Anyways, I am still watching movies and I still have an opinion. I just don't have the time to write full movie reviews these days. I do highly recommend the film Munich. A co-worker complained that the film was overly violent, but I believe that was what made the impact in the film. The violence was real, it was not senseless. The theme of the film got its impact from the violence and the film would not have been the same without it.
