october 20, 2006A few years ago, having 1TB of storage at home was a pipe dream. Now, it looks quite easy to do with inexpensive high capacity drives. I just recently achieved 1TB of storage in my house.
- 640GB Storage Server (CentOS)
- 400GB Vantec NAS
- 100GB Powerbook G4 (MacOS X)
- 100GB Compaq Evo (CentOS)
- 80GB Sony VAIO (Windows XP Pro)
- 30GB Sony VAIO (Windows XP Pro)
- 30GB iPod
- 20GB Portable Firewire Drive
Total storage: 1.4TB. Backups? Damn straight. With this much data, backups are a must. Almost half of the storage listed above is dedicated to backups. Everything gets backed up to the Storage Server via rsync. The Storage Server has 2 x 160GB drives using software RAID0 for (semi-)daily backups. The Storage Server also has one USB 2.0 320GB drive for weekly backups. Right now, I don't have enough stuff between all the machines to fill up the 320GB of storage on the Storage Server.
How much storage capacity are you running in your home currently?
