february 4, 2007Here are some Mac apps that I use a lot:
- Firefox - Safari is cool and all, but it has some funky rendering issues. Also, my favorite plug-ins like NoScript and AdBlock Plus don't really have equals in Safari. Plus, it is nice to have one browser across all the platforms that I use.
- Thunderbird - Mail.app is nice, but I like Thunderbird because I use it across different platforms.
- SubEthaEdit - One very cool text editor. Sure, it ain't as powerful as BBEdit or whatnot, but it is fast and it does its job well.
- iTunes - Why else? Because I have an iPod.
- iCal - Very nice calendaring app that works well with WebDAV.
- Addressbook - Very nice address book app that does just what is needed.
- iSync - Keeps all my phones and data in sync.
- BluePhoneElite - Lets me backup and manage my SMS messages on Bluetooth enabled phones.
- Yojimbo - Ugly ass icon, cool ass app. Lets me store passwords and all sorts of other information tidbits. Very cool.
- Flickr Uploadr - The official Flickr tool for Mac users -- a lot better than the Windows variation because it lets me tag and add descriptions to photos before uploading.
- Adium X - An all-in-one messenger app. Lets me chat with both Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger contacts in one app. If I just want to Yahoo!, then the Yahoo! Messenger is actually pretty nice.
Stuff that was nice, but I don't use much anymore:
- NewsFire - I use a web-based RSS aggregator now, that way I can read my news from any terminal. NewsFire ties me down to my Powerbook.
- Pod2Go - Well, first this thing is discontinued. Second, I don't carry my iPod with me everywhere, so synchronizing info to it is kind of useless -- plus with my mobile phone, I can get all the info live.
- PSPWare - I still use this from time to time to backup my saved games. Otherwise, I don't use it to synchronize music, pictures or movies to my PSP because I don't use my PSP for those things.
- TextWrangler - Like Yojimbo (which is also from Bare Bones), ugly ass icon, decent app. I like SubEthaEdit better.
- Dashboard and Yahoo! Widgets Engine - Widgets are so overblown and a waste of CPU cycles.
One app I have tried, but never figured out was QuickSilver. I'll have to give that one a shot again sometime. What are some cool Mac apps that you use a lot?
