My curiosity all started Wednesday when YHOO jumped some 3.5%. Then yesterday, the stock got another 1.5% bump. And this morning, when I woke up to look at YHOO, it was up another 1.5% or so. Since the beginning of the year, the stock as jumped some 20% (gaining most of what was lost last year). What's going on? That was the question that was being asked on Wednesday and it is getting a lot louder today. I can't tell you that I have the answers, but Mr. Kumar at The Street has some good ideas:
- Panama got released
- More importantly, Panama got released and it was relatively free of problems
- Yahoo! made a bold move to get advertising dollars from TV advertisers
- Ebay gave a vote of confidence to the ads from the Yahoo! network running on Ebay's site
- Yahoo! launched mobile ads
- Yahoo! enhanced mobile search
These are all nice, but can this kind of gain be sustained? Will fickle Wall St. continue to warm up to Yahoo!? Damn, I hope so.
