Drafting A Semi?

may 18, 2007

So, in the spirit of getting green. I am trying to maximize my gas mileage. Easy stuff like driving a tad slower and anticipating stopping (so that I can coast and not gun it to the red light) make a difference. But, what about obscure stuff? Answer my question over at Yahoo! Answers about something that I thought of yesterday while being stuck behind a semi-trailer: More Fuel Efficient To Draft A Semi? Taking a page from NASCAR physics, is it more fuel efficient for a driver to "draft" behind a semi-trailer? If the semi is pushing through air, that should reduce wind resistance for a car behind it right? (Comments are off for this post so that people can answer over at Yahoo! Answers.)
