Live Free or Die Hard

june 29, 2007

I caught the 2pm showing today at the Mercado AMC 20. I must say, I was very impressed by the film. It is one hell of an summer action film and well worth the hype surrounding it. There are a few great action sets in the movie and all but one are almost computer graphics free. The opening sequence (McClane with pistol fighting off baddies with BFGs) was spectacular. That is the one that you can see at Yahoo! Movies titled "the first eight minutes". There is an elevator fight that had me at the edge of my set. The tunnel sequence was fantabulous. And the end sequence, which does integrate CGI was very well done. After John McClane was freed from the whole "cop in tight spaces" concept in Die Hard with a Vengeance, I was happy. Live Free or Die Hard continues with the non-tight spaces thing and it works out well. Justin Long ("Mac" from the "PC and Mac" commercials) is pretty good as McClane's sidekick in this film -- he is not as good as Samuel L. Jackson in Die Hard with a Vengeance, but who is better than Sam? If you go see an action film this summer, go see Live Free or Die Hard. What an invigorating film
