The Accountant 2

I don’t remember anything from the first movie other than the protagonist, Christopher Wolff (Ben Affleck) is neurodivergent, an accountant and a badass killer. I came into this sequel because the trailers sold the relationship between Christopher and his brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) – whom I forgot was also in the original film.
The movie’s plot is a weird convulted mess about a missing kid, an assassin with amnesia, a dead government official and a family that was torn apart. But, I didn’t care anything about the main plot because the movie leans hard into the often times hilarious relationship between Christopher and Braxton. The movie has some really funny, laugh out loud moments that broke up the brutal bloody action.
I thought that there would be more action in the movie, instead I got a lot more crime procedural than action. Unfortunately, the crime procedural portions of the movie are the parts that are an overall drag on the movie. The action itself was well staged and thrilling – the gunfight at the end of the movie was memorable. I also liked the pizza interrogation.
If they decide to make a third movie in this series, I’d love to have a movie that is just Christopher and Braxton hanging out together. Affleck and Bernthal have great onscreen chemistry and it is fun watching them interact with each other. The parts of The Accountant 2 that focused on these two were the best parts of the movie.
